Geography-
Sivasagar is a town and headquarter of the Sivasagar district, Assam. Sivasagar is situated about 360 kilometers northeast of Guwahati. It is well known for its Ahom palaces and monuments. Sivasagar is an important centre for tea and oil industries today.
The Sibsagar Municipal Board was constituted in the year 1916 with a view to rendering civic amenities to its residents. The Sivasagar was the capital of Ahom Kingdom, who ruled Assam for about Six hundred years from 1228 to 1826. Sivasagar Town is the District head quarters of Sivasagar District. There are several ancient monuments in the town and its surrounding which glorify the legacy of the Ahom Kingdom.
The original town area widened to 10.95 sq.km. having 14 nos. wards with a population of about 50781 at present. The Sivasagar municipality is always looking forward to provide latest quality of amenities to the people like street lighting, drainage system, better walk able and motorable roads and drinking water. It has been also planning for a Solid Waste Management plan to fight the waste related diseases. The municipality has also been equipped with modern tools for roads, drain development, street light maintaining, Cess Pool Cleaner and Solid Waste Carrier. The local authority is stressing upon good marketing, better traffic and pedestriel facilities also with utmost care for clean and systematic town.

The Sivasagar Municipal Board has population of 50,781 of which 26,925 are males while 23,856 are females as per report released by Census India 2011. Population of Children with age of 0-6 is 4993 which is 9.83 % of total population of Sivasagar (MB)

There are total of 2 nos colleges in Sibsagar Town viz., Sibsagar Commerce College and Sibsagar Girl`s College and 30 numbers of school and junior colleges in Sibsagar Municipal MB area.
Transportation/Road Connectivity-
Jorhat Airport located at Jorhat, 75 km away from Sivasagar. Another option for getting here is via Dibrugarh Airport, located at a distance of 95 km from the city.
Sibsagar Town railway station serves the town. The nearest railway junction on the Lumding–Dibrugarh section of the Northeast Frontier Railways is Simaluguri Junction, 16 kilometers (9.9 mi) from Sivasagar. Buses ply regularly from Simaluguri towards Sivasagar. It is approximately a half-hour bus ride from Simaluguri town. [1]
Sivasagar is well connected by road with the rest of the state. State-run buses connect it to Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat from the Assam State Transport Corporation's (ASTC) bus station in Sivasagar. Private buses are also available. Taxis are also available for hire. Auto-rickshaws and other modes of transport are available in and around the town. Cheaper modes of transport, like Tata Magic and Tempos, are available through Nazira, Mechagarh and Joysagar to Sivasagar.
